Beautiful arctic reindeer hides from reindeer raised in Iceland and harvested this past winter for their meat. The hides were then transported to Poland where the raw material was tanned to produce the finished leather products.
Reindeer are uniquely adapted to their environment and their hair is proof of this. As winter approaches, reindeer grow a thick, insulating layer of fur to protect them from the extreme cold. This winter coat consists of two layers: an outer layer of long guard hairs and an inner layer of dense woolly underfur. The hollow structure of the long guard hairs traps air, providing additional insulation against the cold.
Due to the hollow hair shaft, we do not recommend stepping/walking on the pelts or using this item as a rug because the hairs can break and fall out. They are wonderful as a decorative item or with gentle treatment they can be used as attire or attire accents. With the proper use and care, these hides will last a very long time.
