How is July already here? Summer is flying by way too fast, as usual! With a new month comes another First Friday Art Walk! This month, we'll be featuring artwork by Annie Brace of Corso Graphics. Let's talk about Annie's work and journey as an artist!
Annie is originally from Iowa, where she reflects that the "open skies and wide fields shaped her early sense of wonder." As a child, she created a self-portrait that expressed her desire to become an artist. This early declaration set the stage for her future as one of Alaska's premier graphic designers. After studying art and design in Italy, she followed her heart to Alaska and opened her Anchorage studio in 2004. She dabbles with various artistic mediums, including watercolor, pen and paper, and acrylics. Her combination of fine art and graphic design backgrounds gives her work a unique flair.
According to Annie, "growing up in the Midwest gave me roots, studying art and design in Italy gave me wings, getting married and having my children gave me purpose. The integration of these three things set the foundation for the trajectory of my life as an artist." Annie craves a life filled with love and creativity; art fulfills her as few other things can. Her mission is to translate the beauty of the valleys, mountains, rushing waters, and fresh air into creations she can share with others. The icing on the cake for Annie is that by pursuing what fills her, she can also enrich someone else's life.
Annie's art can be found on canvas, clothing, wood, metal, and even snowboards! Here at the shop, we carry framed canvas prints, notecards, regular prints, and stickers. We are especially excited about Annie's new pieces that we just got in: Surface Tension, Otterly Peaceful, and Quiet Launch.
Come check out Annie's work in the shop whenever you're in town or visit our online storefront! We also hope to see you at the July First Friday Art Walk happening on July 10th from 6-8 pm. Come out and support local businesses and artists!
